Introduction to The Johnstones

After running a large stud and training centre in Scotland for many years, Doreen, known to all as Boss, and her family moved south. As her children grew up, they trained and competed to various levels with much success through the Pony Club, then affiliated Dressage, Showjumping and Horse Trials.

Doreen and daughter Lorna run the yard with Lorna mainly responsible for competition training and livery horses while Boss teaches and trains at all levels. Last year Doreen celebrated her ‘Golden Anniversary’ having taught for fifty years!

Lorna competes regularly with success in all disciplines, producing a range of young horses which are then sold on to further their careers. She is very much a ‘perfectionist’ and last year concentrated on her least favourite discipline of pure Dressage reaching the National Finals at her first attempt!

Both Lorna and her mother have taught clinics abroad. Doreen recently worked in America with trainers Sally Swift and Françoise Lemaire de Ruffieu in clinics to Grand Prix level held in Vermont and New York State.
